Land Surveying

Picture
Land Surveying is the profession of accurately determining the position of points and the distances and angles between them. These points are usually on the earth’s surface and are used to establish property boundaries to show ownership of land.

The primary job of the land surveyor is to determine the boundary lines of property on the ground.  Information to accomplish this is obtained through observations, measurements, testimony, research of legal documents, extrinsic evidence and data analysis.  It involves the re-establishment of cadastral surveys and boundaries based on legal documents of record and historical evidence.

Many properties have considerable problems that present a puzzle to the land surveyor hired to resolve these boundary discrepancies.  Edward-James Surveying relies on the latest technology and the expertise of our Professional Land Surveyor’s in resolving these discrepancies to re-establishing boundaries.

Construction Surveying

In performing any construction surveying on a project, preparation is an essential part of the job.  We have our field personnel review the contract plans, plan specifications, quantities and any other information they will need to have a thorough understanding of what is to be built.  Our field personnel are comprised of PLS’s with each of them having many years of field experience.

Our field personnel make sure to take the necessary steps to protect all current and future control monuments for the project.  Our office will complete all calculations for the field crews.  Our field crews will then verify critical calculations to make sure they agree with what the office calculated before proceeding with any staking.  After a staking operation is completed, the field crews will double check everything that was staked by visually checking to make sure everything looks correct.  The data is then downloaded and reviewed in the office to make sure all staking locations match what was calculated in the office.

Field books are used on all projects to have documentation of what was done in the field, control files and computer cut sheets are generated in the office for all projects.   We take great pride in our surveyor’s field abilities to stake everything correctly and timely.
